NFL fines Burfict, Iloka for hits

The NFL confirmed Friday afternoon that Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict and safety George Iloka have been fined this week for their actions in last Sunday's 34-30 win against Green Bay at Paul Brown Stadium.

Burfict has been fined a total of $31,000 for an unnecessary roughness penalty he received in the second quarter when he hit a defenseless player - Packers wide receiver James Jones - and for a play in which he induced a personal foul call against Green Bay. Packers tight end Ryan Taylor was flagged 15 yards after referees caught him pushing Burfict after Mason Crosby's extra point gave Green Bay a 30-14 lead in the third quarter.

What the referees didn't see was Burfict hitting Taylor in the groin area. FOX TV's cameras did catch Burfict, however, and so did the league. Burfict's hit on Jones cost him $21,000, while his hit against Taylor cost him $10,000.

Iloka was fined $15,000 for a hit against tight end Jermichael Finley that did not receive a penalty flag in the game. Finley was attempting to catch a pass down the middle seam on Green Bay's first possession of the game. He was falling to the ground as Iloka came in on him. Replays appeared to indicate that Iloka struck Finley with his shoulder but Finley left the game with a concussion and did not return.

Iloka had previously announced this week that he had been fined.

"It's not a double-standard because it's a difficult thing for officials to be 100 percent with," said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis on Iloka being fined without a penalty flag. "It's part of the game. We have to keep working hard and keep coaching hard to try to eliminate as much of that as we can."

The league did not fine safety Reggie Nelson for a hit against Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers that drew a 15-yard penalty for roughing the passer and kept alive a Packers' drive that resulted in a touchdown in the third quarter.
