NFL Draft could be moving to May. Here's why you should care

One thing we love about the NFL is that it never takes a break. After 17 weeks of action-packed regular season matchups, the postseason is as intense as any other in sports. The offseason has its storylines and now the NFL and the NFL Players Association are inching closer to an agreement that would change the calendar. Both sides are working toward a deal to move the 2014 NFL Draft to May and start the league year before the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, according to multiple reports. The reports indicate that it would start as a one-year trial before making it a permanent decision. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell can change the date of the draft without the NFLPA’s approval because of the new CBA, but the league would prefer to have the players’ blessing. So, what’s this all mean to you? Well, you better be planning to thumb through even more mock drafts. Can’t wait. Teams will have more time to evaluate the incoming rookie class. It also brings up the question about what this move would do to further validate the importance of free agency. Will the teams or players get more leverage because of this move? This smells like an idea to spread the offseason out and make the NFL a year-round thing. Just another way to flex the NFL-is-king muscle. Questions? Comments?
