Neck injury ends career of Cowboys' Holloman

IRVING, Texas - Cowboys linebacker DeVonte Holloman has been told by doctors to stop playing football because of a recurring neck injury.

"DeVonte got information back from the doctors in San Antonio and some other doctors that he visited with regarding his neck," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Thursday. "It doesn't look like he's going to be able to play football anymore."

Garrett said the injury is related to a neck injury Holloman had last year. Holloman re-injured his neck in Saturday's preseason game against Baltimore.

Garrett said Holloman said Holloman had been dealing with a neck problem for a couple of weeks, but declined to go into detail about the injury. Holloman did not appear in the locker room during the official media availability.

"I'll let him speak to that, but with the information that we have, it doesn't look like he's going to be able to play football any longer," Garrett said.

Holloman's injury further depletes a linebacking corps that began to deteriorate in the off-season with the knee injury to middle linebacker Sean Lee that will sideline him in 2014.

The Cowboys did get some good news on the linebacker front regarding Rolando McClain, who had been slowed by leg cramps the last two days. Garrett said McClain was "full go" at practice Thursday.
