NAU's Tarver named player of week
OGDEN, Utah -- After three straight shutouts and four wins in a row, Northern Arizona soccer defender Sarah Tarver has been named this week's Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week. The honor comes after a huge 1-0 double overtime win against UTEP who had lost just one game at home this season. The Lumberjacks are now 4-3-1 this season.
UTEP had faced two Big Sky opponents this season in Southern Utah and Weber State and the Miners came away with two wins outscoring Southern Utah and Weber State 6-3 while firing off 27 shots in the two games. Tarver and the Lumberjacks defensive backline held the Miners to just eight shots, not allowing a single goal in 101 minutes of play. The Lumberjacks defense has not allowed a goal in the last 320 minutes of play.
Tarver, the native of Juneau, Ala., has started every game for the Lumberjacks this season and has played in all 750:53 minutes for NAU this year.
Tarver and the Lumberjacks will kick off their Big Sky schedule this Friday, Sept. 26, at home against the defending regular season champion Portland State. Game time is at 7 p.m. at Lumberjack Stadium.
