Myers placed on DL with oblique strain, Jankowski recalled
SAN DIEGO-- On Sunday morning, the Padres announced that they had placed OF Wil Myers on the 10-day DL with a strained left oblique. As a corresponding move, the club recalled OF Travis Jankowski from AAA-El Paso.
The injury to Myers occurred in the 5th inning of Saturday's 12-2 victory over the New York Mets. Myers took a hack and immediately winced in pain and was removed from the game.
The 27-year-old said before Sunday's game that the oblique injury is minor, and that the team has given him a 14-day window for recovery. Oblique issues are tricky, though, so there is not necessarily a timetable for his return.
Travis Jankowski, who was hitting .363 with a .452 OBP in AAA-El Paso, gives the Padres another outfield option with both Myers and Hunter Renfroe on the shelf.
Jankowski's best big-league season came in 2016, when he stole 30 bases and put up a 1.5 fWAR in 131 games played.
