MLB Quick Hits: Bucs' Marte exits early

With 13 home runs and 16 stolen bases so far, Starling Marte has been one of fantasy's elite outfielders. Marte's owners should keep their fingers crossed, as he left Sunday's game with "left side discomfort." The Pirates didn't sound too concerned after the game, but an oblique injury seems possible. Marte will be re-evaluated today.

In other news ...

Speaking of oblique strains, Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg is back on the DL with one of those. What a bummer of a season for Strasburg.

Hey, Ervin Santana! The PED returnee pitched very well in his 2015 debut for the Twins. Santana is owned in 19.6 percent of FOXSports.com leagues, and is worth rostering in all formats. He was 14-10 with a 3.95 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP last season.

A's SP Sonny Gray will return to the mound on Tuesday after a nasty case of stomach flu.

Rangers OF Josh Hamilton didn't play Saturday or Sunday because of a groin injury, but isn't expected to go on the DL. Teammate Delino DeShields came off the DL on Sunday, led off, and had two hits with two runs scored.

Fernando Rodney got a save for the Mariners on Sunday. According to the Tacoma News Tribune, "Rodney got the call in the ninth because (manager Lloyd) McClendon liked his history against the upcoming Oakland hitters." Don't sell your Carson Smith shares just yet, folks.

In other Mariners news, Hisashi Iwakuma will come off the DL to start tonight.

Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez left Sunday's game soon after getting hit in the right hand by a pitch, but the bruise doesn't sound serious.

Yordano Ventura will skip his Monday rehab start, and could be pitching again for the Royals as soon as Thursday.

The Marlins have sent struggling OF Marcell Ozuna to the minors, and reactivated 1B/OF Michael Morse. Morse hasn't played the outfield in Miami this season, but figures to do so moving forward.

Mets 2B Wilmer Flores was 10-for-13 with five RBI over the weekend. Just when you think the Mets can't hit, they ... have one guy who can hit for a few days. Basically, they still can't hit.

Sneaky-powerful Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop came off the DL Sunday and slugged a home run. Schoop hit 16 homers last season, and if you need middle-infield help in a deep mixed league, he can probably help you.

Yankees SP Andrew Miller is scheduled to make a minor-league rehab appearance today, and if all goes well he could be activated right away. The Yanks are still waiting on OF Jacoby Ellsbury (knee), who got a hit and scored a run in a Sunday rehab game. His return could come any day.

Jake Marisnick came off the DL for the Astros on Sunday, played center field and batted ninth. Marisnick isn't much of a hitter, but has some pop and can steal bases. He's not a great option in standard mixed leagues, but can be considered in deeper formats.

Streaming starter update: Chase Anderson was kinda sorta OK on Friday, Kendall Graveman was terrific (against Felix Hernandez!) on Saturday, and Mike Bolsinger struggled on Sunday. Today's slate doesn't have many low-owned options, but if you really need someone, it sounds like the Dodgers will call up lefty Eric Surkamp to start against the horrible Phillies (Carlos Frias has been scratched and placed on the DL). The Phillies have actually been less horrible vs. LHP than RHP, but again, if you really need someone ...

DFS advice (based on 50/50 games, salaries from DraftKings): I think I'm going to pass on the high-priced Chris Sale against the Jays. Yes, this might be idiotic. My cheap pitching pair looks like Jon Lester ($9,000) against the lefty-phobic (.296 wOBA) Cardinals, and Chris Heston ($6,300) versus the Mets. If you use Sale, consider Heston as your money-saving SP2 ... Cheap pitching lets you pay up for Buster Posey ($4,500) or Yasmani Grandal ($4,200) at catcher ... We keep playing Phillies 2B/SS Cesar Hernandez ($3,100) at this price range ... BvP alert: Melky Cabrera ($3,800) is 17-for-30 against Mark Buehrle ... Cubs OF Chris Coghlan ($3,200) often bats near the top of the order when he plays ... Nationals 1B/OF Clint Robinson ($2,800) has been hitting well out of the 4/5 spots.

See you back here tomorrow morning.
