Mississippi State receiver Chad Bumphis arrested
Mississippi State wide receiver Chad Bumphis, who was second on the team in receiving yardage this season, was arrested early Sunday for disorderly conduct at a bar one day after the Bulldogs beat Wake Forest 23-17 in the Music City Bowl.
Bumphis was charged with public drunkenness as well as disorderly conduct as a result of the incident at a Tupelo, Miss., bar, the Starkville Daily News reported.
The incident was characterized as a "big group fight'' by Sgt. Rodicus Hurst, according to the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal. He also said several other people were arrested and that Bumphis suffered a cut after being hit in the neck with a bottle.
"We will handle this the way we would any other incident, especially a situation where there are differing accounts,'' coach Dan Mullen said in statement released Sunday. "The team is expected back next Sunday, classes begin Monday, and we will continue to assess the situation.''
Bumphis, a junior, finished the season with 25 catches for 393 yards. He had one reception for minus-3 yards in the bowl game.
