Minor leaguers for A's, Mets suspended for drug violations

NEW YORK (AP) Two minor league players in Single-A have been suspended after positive tests for banned substances.

Oakland shortstop Eric Martinez was banned for 80 games and New York Mets catcher Walter Rasquin was penalized 50 games.

The commissioner's office announced the suspensions Thursday.

Martinez was on the roster of Stockton in the California League. He tested positive for clomiphene, a performance-enhancing substance.

Rasquin was on the roster of Columbia in the South Atlantic League. He tested positive for methamphetamine, a stimulant.

There have been 34 players suspended this year under the minor league drug program and six under the big league program.
