Minnesota Vikings win NFL Draft coin flip
The Minnesota Vikings have won a coin flip to determine their position in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Sort of.
The Vikings don't have a first-round pick, but they now know where they'll be selecting in every other round.
A coin flip was held at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis on Friday to determine who among the Vikings and Colts would own the No. 14 or No. 15 picks in each draft round. Minnesota and Indianapolis both finished the 2016 with 8-8 records and had matching strength of schedule, which is the first tiebreaker. The second tiebreaker -- the coin flip.
The coin -- which had the logo of a team on each side -- came up Vikings, which was actually the worst of the two scenarios for the team.
Minnesota dealt its first-round pick to Philadelphia for Sam Bradford, so the Eagles now own the No. 14 overall selection.
Because Baltimore was also 8-8, the Ravens, Vikings and Colts alternate picks in round 2-7. Minnesota owns its picks in those rounds, as well as Miami's selections in the third and fourth rounds.
But because Minnesota won the coin toss, the Vikings get the third slot (i.e. 16th) in the second round, No. 48 overall.
Other Vikings picks: Third round, 15th (No. 79 overall) and 22 (86, Miami's pick); fourth round, 14 (121) and 22 (129, Miami's); fifth round, 16 (160); sixth round, 15 (199) and seventh round, 14 (232).
The 2017 draft will be held April 27-29 in Philadelphia.
