Milwaukee extends pact with Helena Brewers

MILWAUKEE – The Brewers formally announced Thursday a two-year player development contract extension with the rookie-league Helena Brewers of the Pioneer League. The deal extends through the 2014 season.

"We are excited to extend our player development contract with the Helena franchise," said Brewers executive Reid Nichols. "... The fans of Helena have given us great support."

The Helena (Montana) Brewers have been a Milwaukee rookie affiliate since 2003. Helena was also a Milwaukee farm club from 1985-2000.

"This has been a partnership that has lasted a very long time," noted Helena president-general manager Paul Fetz, "and in our business that is a strong sign that you have a positive, respectful and mutually beneficial relationship.

"As our parent club, Milwaukee has always strived to send us their best ambassadors, and we appreciate it."

Current Brewers players such as Ryan Braun, Mike Fiers, Mat Gamel and Jonathan Lucroy began their pro careers with the Helena Brewers. Helena, which begins its 2012 campaign on June 18, won the Pioneer League title in 2010.
