Midweek Stock Report: Vikings' Rhodes on the rise

Every Wednesday, FOX Sports North takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.

In other words, who is heating up and who is cooling off.

With that in mind, let's take stock of the current Minnesota sports scene.

Xavier Rhodes, Vikings cornerback

Rhodes drew his biggest matchup of the season in Week 4, squaring off against New York Giants star Odell Beckham Jr., and he delivered. Rhodes held the temperamental Giants receiver to just three catches and 23 yards, the worst stat line of his career. The Vikings' top cornerback got in Beckham's head early, goading the wideout into a costly taunting penalty and picking off quarterback Eli Manning on an overthrown pass while in coverage against Beckham.

Jerick McKinnon, Vikings running back

After struggling to find running room in his first game as the Vikings' primary running back this season, McKinnon found his groove in Week 4. The speedy third-year back averaged 4.7 yards per carry on 18 attempts, rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown while tacking on three catches for 10 yards.

Byron Buxton, Twins outfielder

Buxton took the first pitch of Game 162 to the wall, sprinting around the bases after it took a weird hop across the warning track. He reached home plate in just 14 seconds for an inside-the-park home run, the fastest such score of the year according to MLB's Statcast.

Jose Berrios, Twins pitcher

Berrios capped off a challenging rookie season with one of his best starts, allowing just four hits and one run through five innings for just his third win of the season. Berrios through three strikeouts against three walks in the win, while throwing 93 pitches.

Maya Moore, Lynx forward

The Lynx are headed back to the WNBA Finals after sweeping the Phoenix Mercury in three games, in part thanks to Moore, who rolled against Phoenix, averaging 25.7 points in the series.

Tyler Duffey, Twins pitcher

Duffey turned in a clunker in his final start of the season, surrendering six hits and five earned runs through just two innings pitched against the Chicago White Sox on Friday. The loss comes on the heels of a seven-inning win for Duffey against the Mariners on Sept. 24.

Jaylen Waters, Gophers linebacker

Waters was ejected from the Gophers' 29-26 loss to Penn State on Saturday after lowering his shoulder for a hit on Nittany Lions kicker Joey Julius in the third quarter. Waters picked up an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the play, while Julius had to be helped off the field.
