Midweek Stock Report: The Brewers' Jonathans have a good week

Every Wednesday, FOX Sports Wisconsin takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.

In other words, who is making a meteoric rise, and who is quickly plummeting.

With that in mind, let's "take stock" of the current sports scene in Wisconsin, shall we?

Jonathan Lucroy, Brewers catcher

Lucroy got to go to another All-Star Game and while the National League didn't win, he collected another hit -- meaning he is now 3 for 3 in his two All-Star appearances. Lucroy also had a strong week in the regular season leading up to the break, going 5 for 12 (.417) with a home run.

Jonathan Villar, Brewers shortstop

Villar wasn't an All-Star but he's been one of the better and most consistent Brewers this season. In a week when most players on Milwaukee didn't hit the ball (unless your name is Jonathan), Villar was 7 for 16 (.438) with three doubles and four stolen bases.

David Stearns, Brewers general manager

In the offseason, Stearns dealt for an aging Aaron Hill, whose best years seemed behind him, and ended up being able to get two minor leaguers from Boston in return for him, including one who is considered a top-20 prospect. I'd say that equates to a pretty good start to the trading season.

Thon Maker & Malcolm Brogdon, Bucks draft picks

Both Milwaukee's first- and second-round picks have acquitted themselves thus far in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Top pick Maker is averaging 14.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 31.3 minutes (on the downside, he's shooting just 41.2 percent and is averaging 6.7 fouls -- thanks special Summer League rules!). This time is important for Brogdon, as second-round pick he is guaranteed a roster spot, and he also is averaging big minutes (31.0) and is averaging 12.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

Ryan Braun, Brewers outfielder

Braun is having a very good season but things didn't go his way last week. First, he finished fifth out of five in the Final Five vote for the last All-Star Game roster spot. Then, in the three games he played before the break he went just 1 for 12 with six strikeouts.

Brewers center fielders

Does anyone want this job? It's been a battle all season to see who can take hold of being the starter in center. This past week two of the remaining candidates, Ramon Flores and Kirk Nieuwenhuis, were a combined 2 for 25.

Rashad Vaughn's shot

Last year's Bucks first-round draft choice struggled during his rookie season, especially at making shots. He's back in Las Vegas for the NBA Summer League and while he is averaging a team-high 16.3 points in 31.3 minutes, he is shooting only 35.3 percent from the field and making just 24.0 percent of his 3-point attempts.
