Miami basketball player Erik Swoope declares for NFL draft

Former University of Miami power forward Erik Swoope tweeted his intention to enter the NFL draft and pursue a professional football career.

Sources at the school confirmed to FOX Sports Florida that Swoope is leaving Miami.

Last week, Swoope worked out for a Denver Broncos scout at the Greentree Practice Fields. He projects as a tight end or wide receiver.

Denver already has a basketball-turned-football player on its team -- Pro Bowler Julius Thomas. New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, a former Hurricane, also made the transition.

Swoope, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound player, earned a reputation for his athletic dunks. Unlike Graham, he did not play for UM's football team.

In 110 games during four seasons with the Hurricanes, Swoope averaged 2.6 points and 1.7 rebounds. His senior year, he set career highs with 5.0 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
