Meet the 2018 Brewers: Fun facts about your favorite players

Spring training is underway and shortly the regular season will begin. With that will come the inundation of statistics — batting average, home runs, ERA, etc.

Since you’ll be getting enough baseball stats about the Milwaukee Brewers to fill any void you might have, we thought we’d take a look at the lighter side of things.



We scoured through the Brewers media guide and came up with some different and interesting facts about a number of players (note: we have no repeat facts from last year's edition of fun facts). While your friends are dishing out Corey Knebel's strikeout rate, you can enlighten them on which player used to shoot hoops with a professional wrestler, whose dad won a football national championship and who majored in quantitative economics in college.

Matt Albers: Is an avid fan of the Houston Texans.

Chase Anderson: He and his wife have three dogs: Jack (golden doodle), Toby (shih tzu) and Cami (Pomeranian).

Jett Bandy: Was coached by Angels manager Mike Scioscia as a 10-year-old Little Leaguer in 1999

Keon Broxton: Enjoys pancakes and video games, particularly Rocket League

Lorenzo Cain: Did not play organized baseball until his sophomore year of high school

Zach Davies: Is a fan of the Seattle Seahawks

Oliver Drake: Attended the Naval Academy, majoring in quantitative economics

Yovani Gallardo: Helped purchase uniforms for the Felix Mantilla Little League during his Brewers career

J.J. Hoover: Met his wife, Megan-Kate, in 2012 at the Cincinnati Zoo, where she worked as an animal trainer

Adrian Houser: His cousin, Bob Davis, was a big league catcher from 1973-81 with San Diego (1973, ‘75-78), Toronto (1979-80) and California (1981)

Jorge Lopez: Was a highly regarded volleyball prospect in high school

Jacob Nottingham: Was offered a scholarship to play baseball and football at the University of Arizona

Jon Perrin: Was accepted to law school at the University of Kansas shortly after being drafted by the Brewers

Brett Phillips: Was neighbors with professional wrestling great “Macho Man” Randy Savage as a teenager in Seminole, Fla. Used to play Savage in H.O.R.S.E. every day after school and never won

Brent Suter: His father, Mike, was a safety on Penn State’s 1982 national championship team

Eric Thames: Was team MVP with the LaCrosse Loggers in 2007 while playing in the Northwoods League

Tyler Webb: Helped the University of South Carolina to College World Series titles in 2010 and 2011

Aaron Wilkerson: Worked in the frozen foods section at a grocery store called H-E-B in Waco, TX in 2012 after undergoing “Tommy John” surgery in August 2011. Just after being offered a promotion to manager at H-E-B, Wilkerson ended up signing with the Fort Worth Cats of the independent United League Baseball
