McCarthy: 'We'll plan for Bridgewater' for Packers-Vikings Thursday night
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Based on the information given to Mike McCarthy, Round 1 of Teddy Bridgewater versus the Green Bay Packers will remain on schedule for Thursday night at Lambeau Field.
In his starting debut Sunday, Bridgewater led the Minnesota Vikings to a 13-point upset win over the Atlanta Falcons. However, the rookie quarterback wasn't able to escape the game without an injury. As Bridgewater ran for the end zone early in the fourth quarter, he rolled his left ankle and had to leave the game. Christian Ponder took his spot, and Bridgewater did not return to action.
The MRI done on Bridgewater's ankle came back negative, but he did not participate in the Vikings' practice Monday.
Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer said he was "hopeful" that Bridgewater would play against the Packers. McCarthy is preparing for that to be the case.
"I would think he's going to play," McCarthy said. "We'll plan for Bridgewater."
McCarthy's family taped the Vikings game for him, and he watched the television copy after arriving home from his own team's win in Chicago. McCarthy then watched the coaches' copy of Minnesota's game Monday morning.
"I thought he played well," McCarthy said, adding that he "was told (Bridgewater) feels pretty good."
Bridgewater completed 19 of 30 passing attempts for 317 yards before exiting with the ankle injury. He did not throw a touchdown or an interception, but the 21-year-old did get in the end zone for the first time with a 13-yard run.
Unlike the Vikings, Green Bay did not practice Monday. But the Packers aren't dealing with nearly the same injury issues that their upcoming opponent is. Minnesota has 10 players on its injury report (including Bridgewater) while Green Bay has just five.
