McCabe, Woods, Kerdiles chosen in NHL Draft
MADISON, Wis. -- A pair of current Wisconsin hockey players and one future Badger heard their names called Saturday during the NHL draft.
Forward Nicolas Kerdiles, of Irvine, Calif., heard his name early Saturday, when the Anaheim Ducks selected him with the 36th overall pick, in the second round. Kerdiles is set to be a freshman at Wisconsin next fall.
A short time later, Badgers defenseman Jake McCabe, of Eau Claire, was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres. McCabe, a defenseman, became the 44th overall NHL draft choice this year.
Finally, Wisconsin forward Brendan Woods was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fifth round, at No. 129 overall. Woods scored five goals for UW last season.
