Mavs guard Devin Harris: I'm happy in Dallas

Devin Harris expects to be with the Dallas Mavericks next season. The 31-year-old former fifth overall pick has set winning as his top priority and likes the Mavs chances of fulfilling that requirement.

The 6-3 guard signed a one-year deal with Dallas in July, but missed half the regular season because of a surgically repaired toe. He returned in January and averaged 7.9 points and 4.5 assists in 40 games. During the Mavs' seven-game series against San Antonio, Harris averaged 11.4 points and 3.9 assists.

In regards to a new contract, Harris said he is seeking something in the three-year range this time around.

"I think winning is most important at this point in my career, more than anything else," Harris said during Monday's season-ending exit interviews.

But isn't money important?

"Yes it is," Harris said with a smile.

"I'm happy here," he added. "I want to come back."

Harris was drafted by Washington in 2004 but was part of a trade with the Mavs. He spent three full seasons in Dallas before being traded to New Jersey in 2008. Harris had his best season in 2008-09, averaging 21.3 points and 6.9 assists, earning a trip to the NBA All-Star Game.
