Mauer second in all-star voting at catcher
MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer remains in second place in total voting among American League catchers, according to the updated voting results released Monday.
Mauer sits at 1,283,804 votes, second behind Texas' Mike Napoli, who leads all AL catchers with 2,239,047. Last week, Mauer had 912,997 votes, which moved him from third place in the voting to second.
After playing in just 82 games last season due to numerous injuries, Mauer is batting .314 with 33 RBI this season in 60 games through Sunday. He injured his right quad in Sunday's win over Milwaukee during a collision at the plate, and it remains to be seen if he will play in Tuesday's series opener in Pittsburgh.
No other Twins player ranks among the top five vote getters (or top 15 for outfielders) in any of the other positions. In-stadium voting will end on June 22, while the rosters will be unveiled July 1. The 2012 All-Star game will be played on July 10 in Kansas City.
