Marquette, others will go camo for opener

The idea of wearing military-themed uniforms that began with the inaugural Carrier Classic last November is expanding to all military-affiliated college basketball games Nov. 9.

Playing in the second annual Carrier Classic against Ohio State aboard the USS Yorktown in Charleston, S.C. on that night, Marquette University will have its own camouflage uniforms.

Though the exact look of the uniforms has yet to be released, MU's spirit shop did drop a hint Monday as to how they might look.

The school's spirit shop tweeted a photo of Marquette's Carrier Classic T-shirt with the words “United We Stand” in camouflage. The color of the text is powder blue, the same color as Marquette's alternate uniforms.

Releasing the T-shirt with the powder blue font is a solid clue that the Golden Eagles might wear camouflage versions of their powder blue uniforms when they take on the Buckeyes.

Last season, camouflage uniforms made their debut in the first Carrier Classic as Michigan State and North Carolina both sported military-themed garb. Michigan State started the tradition of giving the uniforms to the troops aboard the ship after the game.

The fan reaction was so overwhelming that Nike decided to expand to more Military-themed games.

According to ESPN's Andy Katz, six teams in addition to MU and OSU will wear camouflage uniforms on Nov. 9. Michigan State and Connecticut will play at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, Syracuse and San Diego State will meet on the USS Midway in San Diego, and Florida and Georgetown will be on the USS Bataan in Jacksonville.
