Marquette lands 7-footer for class of 2014

Marquette added a fourth player to its class of 2014 on Friday, as the Golden Eagles reeled in a commitment from 7-foot center Satchel Pierce.

The Akron, Ohio native joins forward Marial Shayok and guards Ahmed Hill and Sandy Cohen in Marquette's class of 2014. Forward Malek Harris is committed to the school but has yet to sign.

Pierce, who is playing at the Kiskiminetas Springs School in Saltsburg, Penn., is a big addition to a Marquette team losing Davante Gardner, Chris Otule and Jamil Wilson from its frontline after this season.

A three-star recruit by Scout.com, Pierce is considered a raw prospect who has developed quite a bit over the last year. Marquette assistant coach Brad Autry played a big role in recruiting Pierce to the school, as he chose the Golden Eagles over Miami and Pittsburgh.

While the 250-pound Pierce seems to be a project, the Golden Eagles will be in need of frontcourt help right away next season. Jameel McKay's transfer to Iowa State left Juan Anderson and Steve Taylor as the lone forwards returning and neither of them are over 6-foot-8.
