Marquette freshman Duane Wilson fractures left leg

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University will begin the season shorthanded, as freshman guard Duane Wilson has a stress fracture in his left leg.

The school announced Wilson will be evaluated on a consistent basis, but the point guard is expected to miss multiple weeks as he rehabilitates the injury. Wilson's injury is a significant blow to Marquette's depth at point guard, as he was expected to start the year as Derrick Wilson's backup.

Wilson was a consensus top-100 recruit out of Dominican High School in Milwaukee, leading the Knights to WIAA Division 4 state championships in 2012 and 2013.  

Derrick Wilson will open the season as Marquette's starting point guard, but Buzz Williams will now have to figure out who plays behind him with Duane Wilson on the bench. Freshman John Dawson is the only other true point guard on the roster, while junior Todd Mayo likely could play the position for stretches of time.
