Marlon Mack, Quinton Flowers help USF pull away from ECU late

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Marlon Mack rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns, Quinton Flowers threw for three more and South Florida defeated East Carolina 38-22 on Saturday.

East Carolina (2-4, 0-2 American) scored 16 straight points to close within 24-22 with 6:58 remaining before Flowers connected with Rodney Adams on a 62-yard touchdown pass and Mack added a 9-yard scoring run following an interception by Nigel Harris.

The Bulls (5-1, 2-0) extended a school-record streak with their 10th straight game of 35 points and have won six consecutive conference games. Flowers finished 21 of 29 for 250 yards with Adams catching seven for 113.

Flowers threw TD passes to D'Ernest Johnson of 6 yards and 11 yards for a 17-6 halftime lead. Mack's 1-yard score made it 24-6 midway through the third quarter.

The Pirates' James Summers had 118 yards rushing with a score. Zay Jones added 145 yards receiving and a touchdown with 18 catches.
