Marlins take opener from Phillies for 3rd straight victory

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A simple approach for Marcell Ozuna is working nicely.

Ozuna and Justin Bour hit solo homers, Adam Conley threw six effective innings and the Miami Marlins beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 Monday night for their third straight win.

Ozuna has a 16-game hitting streak, tying his career-high set in 2013.

"I got a good pitch to hit and I got it," Ozuna said. "I'm thinking make good contact, hit the ball hard."

Conley (3-2) gave up one run and eight hits, striking out five. A.J. Ramos allowed a run in the ninth but earned his 12th save in as many tries.

"Conley looked like he had more finish on his ball," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "He was definitely sharper compared to the last game."

Philadelphia's Jerad Eickhoff (1-6) allowed three runs and six hits in six innings. He's winless in his last six starts.

"Just trying to make little adjustments from last outing," said Eickhoff, who was bothered by a migraine headache. "Curve was not effective, two-seamer had good life. Slider is a big pitch for me."

Martin Prado's sacrifice fly in the fifth put the Marlins ahead 2-1.

Bour drove his seventh homer the opposite way to left-center to make it 3-1 in the sixth. He was more annoyed with leaving runners on base. The Marlins stranded 12.

"Thankfully it didn't come back to bite us," Bour said.

Derek Dietrich had a sacrifice fly off Andrew Bailey in the seventh and Christian Yelich added an RBI double off Elvis Araujo in the inning to increase Miami's lead to 5-1.

Ozuna hit a 2-0 pitch deep way out to left-center in the second for his seventh homer to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.

The Phillies tied it at 1 on Tyler Goeddel's RBI single in the fourth. Maikel Franco had a sacrifice fly in the ninth, but Carlos Ruiz struck out looking with a runner on second to end the game.

STARTING TIME

Conley bounced back from a rough start in which he allowed four runs and seven hits in four innings in a 10-2 loss to Milwaukee.

"I wanted to be better early in the count so I can expand the zone," he said. "As the game wore on, I was in a better rhythm."

STANDINGS

The Marlins are 16-6 since a 5-11 start. The Phillies have lost two straight, but still are five games over .500.

SAVE THAT BALL

Phillies rookie 1B Tommy Joseph lined a single to center in the sixth for his first career hit. Fans gave him a standing ovation.

GUTSY CALL

Phillies manager Pete Mackanin let Eickhoff pitch to Giancarlo Stanton with two outs and runners on second and third in the third. Eickhoff buzzed Stanton with a 91 mph fastball to fall behind in the count 2-0 before he bounced back to strike out the slugger swinging at a curve.

ROSTER MOVE

The Phillies released veteran catcher J.P. Arencibia from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He batted .167 with one homer.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Marlins: Ozuna and Stanton were in the starting lineup despite feeling sore following a collision in the outfield in Sunday's win over Washington.

Phillies: C Cameron Rupp wasn't in the starting lineup for the second straight game because he has a sore left ankle following a violent collision at the plate to end Saturday night's win. ... INF/OF Cody Asche was 0 for 5 with two strikeouts in his third rehab game at Single-A Clearwater. Asche has been sidelined by a right oblique strain since spring training.

UP NEXT

LHP Wei-Yin Chen (3-1, 4.40 ERA) starts for the Marlins while RHP Vince Velasquez (4-1, 2.70) goes for the Phillies. Chen is 1-0 with a 2.77 ERA in two starts vs. Philadelphia. Velasquez allowed four runs in six innings in his only start vs. Miami.
