Marlins send down Heaney, activate Hechavarria, Koehler
The Marlins sent down starting pitcher Andrew Heaney to Triple-A on Saturday after a rough start against the Cardinals in which he allowed five runs on eight hits over 3 2/3 innings. The team also sent Jake Marisnick down, removed Adeiny Hechaverria from the 15-day DL and reinstated Tom Koehler from the paternity list.
Heaney avoided the loss in a no-decision against St. Louis, but was 0-3 with a 6.53 in four starts since being called up from Triple-A on June 17. His spot in the rotation will be taken by Tom Koehler, whose wife had a baby on July 3.
Hechaverria had been out since June 20 with a triceps injury. He will likely return to his starting shortstop position in Sunday's series finale against the Cardinals.
Marisnick played in 13 games last month but did not see the field this time up.
