Marlins right-hander Mat Latos scratched from Saturday start

MIAMI -- The Miami Marlins scratched right-hander Mat Latos from Saturday's start against the Cincinnati Reds with a right foot contusion.

Latos sustained the injury when a foul ball off Christian Yelich's bat struck his foot through the netting of the dugout's railing on Thursday night.

The 27-year-old righty is 3-6 with a 4.90 ERA in 14 starts this season. Last weekend at Wrigley Field, he limited the Chicago Cubs to one hit and one run over seven innings but took the loss. Latos went on the 15-day disabled list with left knee inflammation from May 23-June 12. He missed time in 2014 after knee surgery and an elbow injury.

This past winter, the Reds traded Latos, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, to the Marlins for right-hander Anthony DeSclafani and catching prospect Chad Wallach.

Left-hander Adam Conley will be recalled from the Zephyrs to make the spot start in Latos' place. DeSclafani was scheduled to pitch for the Reds, but he was also scratched. Raisel Iglesias wills start in his place.

Conley had an 8-2 record and a 2.33 ERA in 16 games (15 starts) for Triple-A New Orleans this season. He was the Pacific Coast League All-Star starter. In his major-league debut on June 10 in Toronto, the 25-year-old southpaw tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

"We called him up earlier," Jennings said. "He's been throwing the ball really well in Triple-A. Again, he's one of those guys we called up. He got a little bit of work and the thing that he does is he's very competitive and he fills up the strike zone. Hopefully he brings that here and takes advantage of the opportunity."

In a corresponding move, Miami designated utility player Jordany Valdespin for assignment. He went hitless in three at-bats as the starting right fielder on Friday.
