Marlins reportedly agree to bonus for first-round pick Josh Naylor

The Miami Marlins and 12th overall pick Josh Naylor agreed to a $2.25 million signing bonus, according to multiple reports.

Naylor, a first baseman/outfielder from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, is a left-handed power bat who played for the junior national team for three years. He turned 18 last weekend and couldn't sign until his high school graduation from St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School on Thursday.

The 6-foot-1, 225-pounder became the highest selection for a Canadian position player June 8 at the draft. A 2014 Under Armour and Perfect Game All-American, he batted .449 in 56 games, collecting 23 doubles, 15 homers and 62 RBI with the Ontario Blue Jays in the falls of 2013-14.

A Texas Tech signee, Naylor visited Marlins Park on June 13, sending five balls during batting practice into the upper deck.

The reported signing bonus would fall below the $3,051,800 slot value for the No. 12 pick. It marks the third-highest total for a Canadian behind right-hander Jameson Taillon (second overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates for $6.5 million in 2010) and left-hander Adam Loewen (fourth to the Baltimore Orioles for $3.2 million in 2002).
