Marlins recall catcher J.T. Realmuto from Double-A Jacksonville

The Miami Marlins recalled catcher J.T. Realmuto from Double-A Jacksonville prior to Saturday's game in Philadelphia.

Realmuto and the Suns captured the Southern League championship Friday night after rattling off wins in 17 of their last 18 games. He collected a hit in each of the seven postseason contests, going .346 with 10 runs and three RBI.

The 23-year-old finished with a .299 average, 25 doubles, six triples, eight homers and 62 RBI in 97 games for Jacksonville. He committed seven errors with six double plays and a 39 percent caught stealing rate in 88 games as the backstop.

When Jarrod Saltalamacchia sustained a concussion earlier this season, Realmuto started five games. In his big-league debut June 5 against the Tampa Bay Rays, he went 2 for 4 with three RBI.

Miami's former third-round pick in the 2010 draft hit .200 (4 for 20) with a run and five RBI in seven games before being sent back down. He was brought back up from July 25-28 but did not appear in a game.

The Marlins expanded roster currently has 32 players.
