Marlins add six to 40-man roster

The Marlins added six players to their 40-man roster on Wednesday night, leaving one spot remaining before the deadline. Left-hander Grant Dayton, right-handers Michael Brady, Angel Sanchez and Jose Urena as well as outfielder Brent Keys and catcher J.T. Realmuto had their contracts selected. They will not be exposed to the Rule 5 draft in December. Sanchez, Urena, Keys and Realmuto are among Miami's top prospects. Realmuto, 22, batted .239 with 21 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 39 RBI in 106 games for the Double-A Jacksonville Suns. The third-round selection of the 2010 draft provides a promising bat at the much-needed catcher position. Keys, 23, hit a combined .341 with two home runs and 33 RBI in 103 games between the Class-A Jupiter Hammerheads and Jacksonville. A 17th-round pick in the 2009 draft, he won the South Atlantic League batting title in 2013. Sanchez, acquired in the Ricky Nolasco trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, went 6-10 with a 4.11 ERA in 26 games (25 starts) this season. The 23-year-old, however, went 4-3 with a 3.22 ERA in 10 starts for the Hammerheads, including his part in a combined no-hitter. Though Urena held a 10-7 record and 3.73 ERA in 27 games (26 starts) for Jupiter, he projects as a reliever. The 22-year-old walked just 29 batters in 149 2/3 innings. Brady posted a 2-2 record and 1.53 ERA in 49 relief appearances for the Suns. The 26-year-old closer struck out 55 batters in 53 innings, while walking just nine to go with his 23 saves. Dayton also pitched 30 games out of Jacksonville's bullpen, going 4-4 with a 2.37 ERA. In 38 innings, he struck out 56 hitters. Lefties managed just a .140 batting average against the 25-year-old southpaw.
