Manziel, Clowney headline All-SEC preseason teams

HOOVER, Ala. — The SEC released the media's picks for the All-SEC teams on Wednesday morning, with Alabama garnering a league-high seven selections on the first team.

At quarterback, Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel (Texas A&M — 119 first-team votes) eclipsed Alabama's AJ McCarron (67 votes) and Georgia's Aaron Murray (52) for first-team honors, even though McCarron is a reigning national champion and Murray is on track to become the SEC's all-time passing leader by season's end.

On the defensive front, South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney secured 223 first-place votes, easily out-distancing any player in that realm, offense or defense. However, he finished 20 votes shy of becoming just the second unanimous preseason selection of this century (Arkansas tailback Darren McFadden).

Since 1992, Alabama owns the single-season mark for the most players on the first team (nine in 2001).
