Manohar postpones resignation as ICC chairman to June
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) Shashnak Manohar has postponed his resignation as International Cricket Council chairman until it finishes restructuring its governance and finances.
The ICC said in a statement on Friday that its board resolved this week to ask Manohar to withdraw the resignation he submitted last week, or at least delay it.
''Although my decision to depart due to personal reasons has not changed, I am willing to continue as chairman till the responsibility as per the resolution is complete,'' Manohar said in a statement. ''I have a duty to work with my colleagues to enable a smooth transition.''
Manohar has been leading reforms to decentralize the powers of India, Australia, and England.
He replaced N Srinivasan as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India in November 2015, and since then he has widely spoken out against the control of the `Big Three.'
Manohar quit as BCCI president last May after a shakeup in its structure. But only a couple of days later he was elected unopposed as the first independent ICC chairman.
Cricket Australia chairman David Peever and Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan hailed Manohar's decision to stick around until a successor is elected at the annual conference in June in London.
