MAC commissioner gets contract extension through 2020
The Mid-American Conference has extended the contract of Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher for three years.
The MAC's Council of Presidents announced Monday the extension through the 2019-20 academic year. Steinbrecher started as MAC commissioner in May 2009.
Under Steinbrecher's leadership, the MAC signed a 13-year media rights agreement with ESPN last year and reached a sublicensing deal with CBS Sports Network to air football and basketball games.
The MAC has also expanded its bowl lineup under Steinbrecher to include five guaranteed postseason spots for its teams.
The MAC has long-term deals to hold its football championship game at Ford Field in Detroit and its men's and women's basketball tournaments at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
