Lynx sign Slovenian guard Baric
The Minnesota Lynx signed guard Nika Baric on Wednesday, the team announced without disclosing terms of the agreement.
The 22-year-old Slovenian was originally drafted by the Lynx in the second round (20th overall) in 2012, but has been playing in the Russian league. She has appeared in 13 contests for Sparta&K, averaging 11.2 points, 3.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game.
"We are excited to welcome Nika to the Minnesota Lynx organization," said Lynx Executive Vice President Roger Griffith. "She is a great shooter and will add depth to our backcourt this season."
Before she was drafted, the 5-foot-7 Baric played alongside Lynx guard Seimone Augustus with Sparta&K in Russia. In 26 Russian League games, Baric averaged 4.9 points, 2.3 assists and 1.0 rebounds in 15.5 minutes per game while shooting 42.1 percent from the field.
In 2010, she represented Slovenia in the 2010 FIBA U18 European Championship and was awarded tournament MVP honors after averaging 23.3 points, 5.9 assists and 4.0 rebounds, leading her country to its first-ever U18 Women's European Final Four.
