Lynx extend contract of veteran Brunson

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Lynx have locked up veteran power forward Rebekkah Brunson for a few more years.

Shortly before Minnesota's regular-season finale against Tulsa, the team signed the gritty, 11th-year power forward to a multi-year contract. The team declined to release specifics of the deal.

"We are extremely excited to have extended the contract of Rebekkah Brunson," Lynx executive vice president Roger Griffith said in a release. "She's one of the cornerstones of our team and we're thrilled that she's decided to continue her career in Minnesota. We look forward to having her in a Lynx uniform for many years to come."

Brunson, 32, has played in just 10 games this season after undergoing preseason arthroscopic surgery on her right knee. In that span, she has averaged 7.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.

Last year, she finished her fourth season in Minnesota averaging 10.6 points and a team-high 8.9 rebounds per game. She tied her own franchise record with 12 double-doubles, made the WNBA's all-defensive second team and started in the WNBA All-Star Game. At the end of the season, she held up the league's championship trophy with her teammates for the second time in three years.

Brunson also moved into seventh place on the WNBA's all-time rebounding chart earlier this month.
