Lutui signs qualifying offer

TEMPE (AP) -- Arizona guard Deuce Lutui has signed his one-year qualifying offer from the Cardinals.

Lutui had to sign the offer of about $1.8 million by Tuesday or the Cardinals would have reduced it to about $588,000 -- 110 percent of his 2009 pay.

Lutui has started every game for the past two seasons. He was hoping for a long-term contract, but the Cardinals made it clear that was not going to happen.

The guard entering his fifth season may have lost his starting job during his absence. The Cardinals signed free agent Alan Faneca and put him at left guard and moved Reggie Wells to Lutui's right guard spot.

Lutui, who skipped the team's minicamp and voluntary workouts, signed the offer after switching agents.
