Lions hire Tony Oden and Matt Raich
The Detroit Lions confirmed the addition Tuesday of two more defensive coaches to Jim Caldwell's staff.
Tony Oden, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' secondary coach last season, will work with the Lions' defensive backs as an assistant to new secondary coach Alan Williams. Oden was an assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012 following five years with the New Orleans Saints.
Matt Raich, meanwhile, has been hired as a defensive quality coach and will likely spend much of his time with the linebackers. Raich was the linebackers coach last season at Duquesne University after six years with the Arizona Cardinals and three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The only position coach that hasn't been named by Caldwell is at quarterback, but that role could be handled by offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, the former quarterbacks coach for the Saints. Caldwell also has considerable experience coaching quarterbacks, including Peyton Manning.
