Lightning halts Michigan State game
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State's season opener, vs. Western Michigan, was halted for approximately one hour because of a lightning strike near Spartan Stadium.
The game was called around 9 p.m. EDT after a lightning strike amid a downpour, which began in the first minutes of the second quarter. Another lightning strike occurred at 9:25 p.m.
Fans were asked to temporarily leave the stadium, although some -- mostly in the student section -- elected to stay.
Re-entry started around 9:40 p.m., and the game resumed at 10 p.m. with Michigan State leading 7-0 lead with 11:19 left in the first half.
