Lamping to take over as Jags president

Mark Lamping, the president and CEO of MetLife Stadium, home to the New York Giants and New York Jets, will take over as president of the Jacksonville Jaguars effective Monday, Feb. 27.

New Jaguars owner Shahid Khan announced the move on Monday morning, indicating that Lamping will report to him on all non-football matters while team GM Gene Smith will report to him on the football side of the team's operations.

"This is a very important and exciting development in the Rebirth of the Jacksonville Jaguars," Khan said in a press release. "Mark will bring to the Jaguars and to the Jacksonville community a mix of sports and brand marketing, stadium management expertise and team front office leadership that is very difficult to find in one person. Mark's resume speaks for itself and I am very grateful to the Giants and Jets for making it possible for the Jaguars to present Mark with a new challenge and the prospect of success here in Jacksonville."

Lamping is a former marketing executive with Anheuser-Busch who served as team president for the St. Louis Cardinals, helping the team flourish in fan attendance and become a consistent winner with five division titles, two NL pennants and a World Series title in 2006.

Under Lamping, Met-Life earned the right to host the 2014 Super Bowl due in part to his work heading up the Giants-Jets stadium.

Lamping is excited about the move to Florida to head up the Jaguars.

"The Jacksonville Jaguars have vast potential, and I'm honored that Shad Khan is asking me to play a leadership role in reaching that potential," Lamping said. "We have the opportunity to revitalize the franchise and build something special, memorable and hopefully historic for the league, our partners and especially Jaguars fans, who will be central to our mission. My wife Cheryl and I are ready to get started and excited to make Jacksonville our home."
