Lamonte Edwards dismissed from Gophers
MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota linebacker Lamonte Edwards has been kicked off the football team for violating a team rule, a Gophers spokesman confirmed Wednesday.
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Edwards was arrested after he stole an iPhone from a Gophers weight room on June 18. After initially claiming the phone was his, Edwards later admitted to stealing the phone.
Edwards, a standout running back at Woodbury (Minn.) High School, transitioned to linebacker during his freshman season in 2011. He played in 11 games as a redshirt sophomore last year and made eight tackles.
