Kubel named co-NL Player of the Week
Diamondbacks left fielder Jason Kubel was named co-NL Player of the Week on Monday following a big week at the plate that helped the D-backs win five straight games.
In five games last week, Kubel batted .409 (9 for 22) with two home runs and 12 RBIs, tied for most in the league. Five of those RBIs came in Tuesday's game against the Rockies, when Kubel came just a double short of hitting for the cycle. The other seven came during the D-backs' weekend sweep of the Athletics.
Kubel, the D-backs' RBI leader with 36, has now collected multiple RBIs in four straight games for the first time in his career. He is hitting .293 with a team best .379 on-base percentage, and his six home runs are tied with Aaron Hill for second most on the team behind Paul Goldschmidt's eight.
Kubel, who signed a two-year deal with the D-backs in the offseason, shared the NL honors with Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster, who went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA last week. The award is the first for a D-backs player this season.
