Kipnis off DL, back in lineup

Jason Kipnis has been activated off the disabled list and will be in the lineup as the Indians close a three-game series against the White Sox tonight in Chicago.

With Michael Brantley batting .344 in the third spot and injuries to Nick Swisher and Carlos Santana, Kipnis will be batting cleanup for the first time with the Indians. That leaves fifth as the only spot in the order where he hasn't hit.

Kipnis has been on the disabled list since May 2 after suffering a strained right oblique during an April 29 game against the Angels. In 27 games this season, Kipnis is hitting .234 with three home runs and 12 RBI.

"The running and throwing didn't bother me too much. It was more just swings because that's how it happened and gradually working it," Kipnis said on Tuesday. "Once we built it up the confidence everything got back to normal."

To make room for Kipnis, Justin Sellers was sent down to Columbus. Sellers, who was called up on May 20, appeared in seven games and was 3 for 16.
