Khris Davis activated off disabled list, will start in left field
Khris Davis has been activated off the disabled list, the Brewers announced, and he's already starting in place of the team's hottest hitter.
Davis, who was reinstated from the 15-day DL on Tuesday, had been sidelined since undergoing knee surgery at the end of May. When Milwaukee revealed its lineup for that night's game against Atlanta, Davis was in left field and batting seventh in the order.
During Davis' absence, veteran outfielder Gerardo Parra had been playing regularly -- and, recently, had been exceptionally well. Since June 1, Parra raised his season batting average 42 points from .269 to .311 while providing his typically sterling defense, posting a perfect fielding percentage in left. Over the Brewers' last nine games, Parra hit .471 (16 for 34); on Monday, in Milwaukee's loss to the Braves that ended its eight-game winning streak, he went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double.
Parra had started eight consecutive games and hadn't had a day off since May 18.
Before his injury, Davis was hitting .250 with five home runs through 46 games for the Brewers. During his rehab stint with Class-A Wisconsin, he batted .100 (2 for 20) with two RBI.
To make room on the roster for Davis, the Brewers optioned right-handed pitcher David Goforth to Triple-A Colorado Springs. The 26-year-old reliever made four appearances for Milwaukee, allowing one hit and zero runs in 2.1 innings.
