Kevin Jones chosen as 2014 NBA D-League All-Star
Canton Charge forward Kevin Jones (6-8, 260, West Virginia) has been selected to participate in the 2014 NBA Development League All-Star Game in New Orleans on February 15, the league announced today. Jones will play for the "Futures" team, helmed by Canton Charge Head Coach Steve Hetzel, Assistant Coaches Jordi Fernandez, James Posey and Nate Reinking as well as Head Athletic Trainer Mike Gittinger.
The honor is Jones' first in his second year with Canton and in the D-League. After spending the 2012-13 season as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers and stints on assignment with the Charge, he was acquired as a returning player before this season. Jones has started all 27 of Canton's games and is currently averaging 16.0 points on .514 shooting to go along with 7.3 rebounds and 0.7 steals in 29.7 minutes per game.
In his first season as Charge Head Coach, Hetzel and his staff have led Canton to a current 17-10 record and first place in the East Division. The Charge boast the top scoring defense in the D-League, allowing just 98.7 points per game, and the best offensive field goal percentage by hitting 47.9% of shots from the field. Hetzel and his staff earned the trip to New Orleans by virtue of winning a tie-breaker with Nate Bjorkgren and the staff of the Iowa Energy, which had the same 16-9 record through games of Jan. 26, for the League's second-best winning percentage.
The eighth annual NBA D-League All-Star Game takes place on Saturday, February 15, at Sprint Arena inside NBA All-Star Jam Session at New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The game will air live on NBA TV at 3 p.m. ET.
Canton is back home at the Civic Center hosting the Austin Toros on Tuesday, February 4, at 7:00 p.m.
