Kabongo rallies Texas past Oklahoma in OT
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Myck Kabongo scored 32 points and made an off-balance jumper at the buzzer to force overtime, and Texas rallied from 22 points down in the second half to beat Oklahoma 92-86 Wednesday night.
Kabongo scored Texas' first six points in overtime, opening the period with a 3-pointer to give Texas its first lead since early in the first half.
Romero Osby scored 31 for Oklahoma (18-9, 10-5 Big 12), which led 67-45 on a dunk by Amath M'Baye with 7:54 to play in regulation. Texas stormed back behind a 13-0 run that flipped momentum.
Sheldon McClellan scored 17 for Texas (13-15, 5-10), including three free throws with 9.5 seconds left. Osby missed one of two free throws on the other end, setting up Kabongo's desperation shot that tied it at 77.
Steven Pledger scored 18 for Oklahoma on six 3-pointers but made just one after halftime. The Sooners have lost eight in a row in Austin.
Oklahoma was well on its way to ending that losing skid when the Sooners shot a blistering 71 percent in the first half. Oklahoma was in complete control against a punchless Texas team when M'Baye dunked and flashed an upside-down "Hook'em Horns" sign for added insult.
The gesture meant to taunt the sparse Texas crowd instead fired up the Longhorns. Texas' full-court press helped force the Sooners into 16 turnovers that the Longhorns converted into 26 points.
Kabongo led the way, showing everything Texas missed while he sat out a 23-game NCAA-imposed suspension. In just his fifth game back, Kabongo drove the basket, dished out six assists and stepped outside for 3-pointers.
In overtime, Kabongo's long 3-pointer gave Texas its first lead since midway through the first half. He followed it with a free throw and a tough layup that put Texas up 83-81.
McClellan made two more free throws and Ioannis Papapetrou made a long 3-pointer from the left wing to put Texas ahead 88-84 with 48 seconds left.
