Josh Willingham reinstated, Ryan Doumit concussed

MINNEAPOLIS -- After more than a month away, Josh Willingham is back with the Minnesota Twins.

The team returned the outfielder from a three-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester and reinstated him from its 15-day disabled list. Willingham has missed the last 33 games due to surgery July 3 to repair a medial meniscus tear in his left knee.

He struggled at the plate in Rochester, going 1-for-9 with a home run and two walks. He's been mediocre in 70 big-league games this season, too, batting .224 with 37 RBI and an OPS of .754.

The Twins also announced they've put catcher Ryan Doumit on the seven-day disabled list with a concussion. He took a foul tip off his mask Sunday in Houston and felt nauseous on the team's plane ride to Kansas City but didn't reveal his symptoms to anyone until exiting in the fourth inning Wednesday, again citing nausea.

His disabled stint is retroactive to Thursday, the Twins' day off before this weekend's series against the Chicago White Sox. If he's cleared, Doumit could be back in the lineup by next Thursday's home tilt with the White Sox.

Doumit is hitting .244 with 44 RBI -- tied for second on the team -- and an OPS of .699 in 99 games this year.

First pitch between Minnesota and Chicago is set for 1:10 p.m. Friday in the first game of a doubleheader. Game 2 starts at 7:10 p.m.
