Jockey Trevor McCarthy injured in spill at Monmouth Park

OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) Jockey Trevor McCarthy was taken to a hospital for neurological testing after he was tossed from his mount during the feature race at Monmouth Park on Sunday.

The 21-year-old jockey was aboard Calypso Run, a 3-year-old filly who was moving up along the rail in the $70,000 Miss Woodford Stakes when she clipped heels at the top of the stretch.

Track medical director Angelo Chinnici said McCarthy had a severe headache, so he was due to have a CAT scan and other neurological tests.

A native of Wilmington, Delaware, McCarthy has ridden 25 winners from 165 mounts during Monmouth's current meet, placing him fourth in the track's overall standings.
