Jerry Jones: Dez Bryant is a 'teddy bear' with a lot of 'passion'
In the fourth quarter of Thursday's game with the Dallas Cowboys up substantially over the Chicago Bears 35-13, receiver Dez Bryant unleashed a tirade on the sidelines as Dallas elected to send kicker Dan Bailey out for a 35-yard chip shot.
The Cowboys have had demonstrative receivers like Michael Irvin, Keyshawn Johnson and Terrell Owens, and Cowboys owner/president/general manager Jerry Jones has overseen the careers of each of them. He has a frame of reference when it comes to evaluating passion.
"It's a positive for us; it's not a negative thing," Jones told 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM] Friday morning.
"He's a teddy bear. He's the neatest guy to be around you've ever seen. But I'm going to tell you one thing: he's got a passion button, and there's no stopping him. And you just -- you just can't calm him down when he gets going."
Jones went on to say that the fifth-year receiver out of Oklahoma State used to get so fired up in pregame warmups that he would be over on the sideline with his teeth chattering from the outpouring of energy. Nowadays, Bryant has learned to harness that energy and inspire teammates, according to Jones.
"But that's his passion," Jones said. "And I want to tell you this team uses some of that passion."
What does Bryant think? He was pretty clear after the game.
