Jeremy Hellickson joins elite Rays club with 5th June win
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Jeremy Hellickson achieved some Tampa Bay Rays history Sunday.
By allowing one run and six hits in six innings during the Rays’ 3-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers at Tropicana Field, the right-hander tied a franchise record with five victories in a calendar month. He joined left-handers Matt Moore (April 2013), David Price (June 2012) and Scott Kazmir (May 2008) as the only other pitchers in franchise history to achieve the feat.
Hellickson allowed a career-high eight runs on June 13 in a loss to the Kansas City Royals. Excluding that start, however, he went 5-0 with a 1.80 ERA (six earned runs in 30 innings pitched). Hellickson is 7-3 with a 4.90 ERA this season.
