It's a boy! Braves' Freeman, wife welcome newest addition

This was already a season of new heights for Freddie Freeman, who overcame a rough start for arguably the best year of his career.

Now, 2016 has become unforgettable for the Braves first baseman for a very different reason: he and his wife welcomed a baby boy.

Freeman's wife, Chelsea, posted the following to Instagram and Twitter on Thursday night with a photo of the couple and their newest addition:

"Our first picture as a family of three!!! 24+ hours of active labor, epidural at 8-9cm dilated and 3 hours of intense pushing in every position possible and this little guy wouldn't flip (he was sunny side up) or budge past my pelvic bones. Ended up in emergency c-section. Not how I wanted my labor to go, but he is healthy and perfect!! So smitten by this guy."

There has been no announcement on the baby's name.

Freeman left during the seventh inning of the Braves' game against the Marlins on Wednesday when his wife went into labor.

The couple has used social media a window into their path to parenthood, tweeting a video in March of Freddie hitting a ball filled with powder that revealed the sex of the baby.

Freeman has set new highs this season in home runs with 30, triples with six and slugging percentage at .556, and is riding a 20-game hitting streak, the longest in the National League.
