Irving done for postseason after MRI reveals extent of knee injury

When Kyrie Irving went down during overtime of Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night, many feared his postseason might be over.

The Cleveland Cavaliers confirmed late Friday that is the case after an MRI revealed a broken left knee cap.

According to the team, he will have surgery "in the coming days" at the Cleveland Clinic. Team physician Dr. Richard Parker will conduct the procedure.

Irving, a three-time All-Star who has battled multiple injuries during this postseason but had a strong start to the Finals, is expected to need three to four months recovery time.

Following the announcement of his injury, Irving thanked Cavaliers fans on Instagram for their continued support.
