Howdy wins opening day feature at Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (AP) Howdy won the $54,970 feature by two lengths Thursday on opening day of the spring meet at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Mario Gutierrez, Howdy ran a mile in 1:36.12 and paid $7.40, $3 and $2.40 as the 5-2 second choice.

Fusaichi Samurai returned $2.20 and $2.10 as the 7-10 favorite, finishing second for the third consecutive race for trainer Bob Baffert.

Carlsbad Mountain returned $2.60 to show.

Howdy increased his career earnings to $165,800, with three wins in 14 starts.
